Our Solar System

Our Solar system of one star and eight planets was born about 4.6 billion years ago. All of the pieces were created at the same time.  It took billions of years for the entire system to develop. All of the gases, dust, and pieces of the system were around at the start. Eventually a star, eight planets, some smaller dwarf planets (like Pluto), and an asteroid belt developed. There wasn't even a star when the Solar System started out.

1. Age
The Solar System was formed approximately 4.6 billion years ago, it is derived from the study of meteorites.

2. Father of Solar System
99.86% of the system’s mass is found in the Sun and the majority of the remaining 0.14% is contained within the solar system’s eight planets.
Sun is the head of our solar system

3. Size
The diameter of solar system is 18.75 trillion kilometers.
Time taken by present space shuttle to reach out from our solar system will be approximately 73087 years.

4. A Huge Family
Our solar system is just a huge Family.  It has 1 star (The Sun),8 planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune),5 dwarf planets (Pluto, Ceres, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris),181 moons, 566,000 asteroids and 3,100 comets.

5.Terrestrial Planets
The four smaller inner planets, also known as the “terrestrial planets” (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars), are primarily composed of rock and metal.

6.Gas Planets
The four outer planets, also known as the “gas giants” (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune), are substantially larger and more massive than the inner planets.

7.Ice Planets
The two outermost gas giants, Uranus and Neptune, are composed largely of ices, (water, ammonia and methane) and are sometimes also referred to as the “ice giants“

8. Heliosphere
The heliosphere is the immense magnetic bubble containing our solar system, solar wind, and the entire solar magnetic field. It extends well beyond the orbit of Pluto.
" We live inside the atmosphere of Sun "

9.Kuiper Belt
The Kuiper belt  is a circumstellar disc extending from the orbit of Neptune (at 30 AU)(1 AU=149,597,870.7 kilometres, distance between sun and earth) to approximately 50 AU from the Sun.It is far larger—20 times as wide and 20 to 200 times as massive as compared to asteriod belt. it's asteroids are composed largely of frozen volatiles (termed "ices"), such as methane, ammonia and water. The Kuiper belt is home to three officially recognized dwarf planets: Pluto, Haumea, and Makemake.

10. 243 Lda
243 Ida is an asteroid in the Koronis family of the asteroid belt. Amazing fact about this asteroid is that it has it's own moon.
