Venus

Venus is the second planet from the Sun and is the second brightest object in the night sky after the Moon. Named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, Venus is the second largest terrestrial planet.

1.Size
Venus is nearly as big as the Earth with a diameter of 12,104 km. Venus having 81.5% of the Earth’s mass. Both also have a central core, a molten mantle and a crust. Therefore,Venus is often called the Earth’s sister planet.

2.Hottest Planet
The dense atmosphere of around 96.5 percent carbon dioxide traps heat and causes a greenhouse effect, therefore the average surface temperature is 462 °C,even Venus does not tilt on its axis, there is no seasonal variation

3.Brightest Planet
The brightest object in the sky after sun and Moon is not a star but a planet which is Venus. Therefore Venus is sometimes referred to as the “morning star” and “evening star”

4. Day and year
It takes 243 Earth days to rotate once on its axis. The orbit of the planet takes 225 Earth-days – making a year on Venus shorter on day on Venus
" One day on Venus is longer than one year"

5.Clockwise Rotation
Most other planets rotate counter-clockwise on their axis, however Venus, like Uranus, rotates clockwise. This is known as a retrograde rotation and may have been caused by a collision with an asteroid or other object which caused the planet to change its rotational path.

6. Sulpuric acid cloud
The dense clouds of sulpuric acid are present in the atmosphere which make it impossible to view its surface from outside its atmosphere.

7. Atmospheric Pressure
Atmospheric pressure on Venus is 92 times greater than the Earth’s.The pressure felt by a human on the surface would be equivalent to that experienced deep beneath the sea on Earth.
